The McFall Farm is now a great crop farm with thick, timber draws. As bowhunters, its been tough establishing stand locations due to the heavy, thick areas of saplings within the overall wood line.
This makes it perfect for big bucks, but very hard to place stands without extensive chainsawing, needed to create shooting lanes. It is one of the reasons this farm was last to become a bow only farm.
But the bucks are no doubt huge with such thick cover and the conversion of this farm out of CRP has improved its income capabilities and been a massive improvement to hunting conditions.
The Branch River Farms Property is located between the Cities of New Hampton and McFall Missouri off gravel road 360th. The property has always been an excellent deer hunting property but really came into its own in 2010 with a new neighbor who manages for quality whitetails. This makes it part of a contiguous 450+ acre of well managed whitetail property. You should take notice of all the daytime and late season trail camera pics of shooters on this property!!!!!
The farm was just re-entered into the CRP program and will be reseeded to tall warm season grasses this spring. With a total 68.65 Ac at $148.00 per acre for a total of $10,160.00 annually for a period of 10 years ($101,600.00) for the total contract!
Historically the property was managed with a 125 minimum 2006-2012 and allowed gun hunting through the 2011 season. Since that time it has been a bow only farm with a 140″ minimum.
The timber on the property is thick with very thick sapling borders to the field edges allowing very thick areas for bucks to stage. We have spent years opening up areas within the main woodline for access and good bow shots to cover fields and wooded areas.
The best bucks include a 148″ double drop tine kill in 2008, a 160 clean 10pt in 2007 a nice 135″ 10pt in 2011, a 160 10-point in 2014, and a 140″ 11pt in 2015. We have photographed some true monsters on this property, and it has proven itself to be a keeper of big bucks even into the late season always making the last week of January a great place to spend both mornings and afternoons bowhunting.
