Shed Hunting Started!

We have begun shed hunting the farms and the weather has been a big obstacle for us.  The weather has been very snowy, icy and windy and despite a larger than normal number of early antler drops, plenty of bucks still walking around w their horns!

These are a matched set found on the 171ac farm.  We have tons of pics of this buck throughout the season.  Several sightings, but no shots.  I was on the fence about shooting him.  Although I have not yet taped the sheds, we figured he was low 150’s.  But possibly only a three-year old.  The best kind of buck to let walk.  However, from a marketing standpoint of both selling hunts and having the 171 still for sale, there was an argument to shoot him for marketing reasons.

Luckily for him, after sticker was shot during the MO rifle season, I barely spent any time on stand.  As many of you know – the limitations of my last spine surgeries really inhibit bow hunting unless I have a booner to hunt…Booners are well known for their ability to stimulate endorphins in bow hunters…natures best pain killer!

So this remains a win win for me.  If the farm sells, less work saving me more discomfort, if it doesn’t sell, I surely will have a solid booner to chase next fall!

The McFall Farm Closed last week and while I am sad I don’t get to burn that CRP and find a ton of horns, I am glad I don’t have to burn that CRP.  Its a bitter sweet farewell.  The new owner works in the fire arms manufacturing industry and after talking w his realtor this week, I am pretty sure those deer, after 10-years of bow only hunting, are gonna have to learn a new “safe distance” tactic!  We wish him well and know he’ll enjoy the property!
